The response to the question “when is the perfect time to launch?” is, of course, right now—because you’ll never feel ready. Ready is an action, not a feeling.

In software development, there does seem to be a bit of a caveat: the perfect time to launch is whenever the code actually does the thing you say it does. We kind of got stuck there.

Catenary—our open-source tool that brings compiler-accurate LSP diagnostics and symbol resolution to AI coding agents via MCP—has been doing the thing we set out to make it do for a while now. But we still found ourselves waiting until “Version 2” to make any public announcement. There were broken builds, outdated setup instructions, and unconsidered edge cases across different developer environments. But that’s always par for the course, isn’t it?

When I worked as a software engineer at a company with lots of other engineers, we shipped code continuously. The products we built were almost always broken in some small way, even post-release. Technical debt was acquired, edge cases surfaced, and bugs were logged. Yet those companies never let minor imperfections stand in the way of shipping value.

So this is our launch before we feel completely ready. Catenary works, and it solves the problem we set out to solve. Now we want it out in the open, refining it alongside the developers who use it.
